Trying To Understand
This section is for Parents of LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer) Children/Teens.
Number one you raise your kids the way you think they should be and should act, but on the other hand, if they're any of the LGBTQ then you automatically think I did something wrong, its gotta be something I did. Really its not anything you did or didnt do, as long as you protected your child, raised them to know right and wrong, cared for them, etc, you were/are a great parents. They say that every since person in this world developed their own way of thinking and personalities at a really early age, so if they are gay, lesbian, bi or trans, they already have these traits.
As far as the PHASE most of people who come out as any of the LGBTQ dont just go through a phase, for some others yes it might be a phase or an experimental thing they just wanna see how things are.
I know its gonna be hard for you as a parent to understand this unless you've been there yourself or your very open-minded, but its nothing you did or didnt do, and also your child coming out is as hard to do as it is for you to hear it, believe it or not. We all have to go through years of fighting with feelings, thoughts, worries, name calling, judgements & religious beliefs of our parents and our own.
Just try to remember to stay calm and try to understand them. And trying everything to get them to change may not work in most cases, it can actually make things worse by then child lashing out at you, gettin in trouble, depression/anxiety problems, running away from home or even suicide or thoughts about it. You just want to ask them the questions you have for them and them answer them for you if their comfortable & try not to pull them OUT if their not ready to tell you I'm sure they will sooner or later, but they have to make sure it is who they are and how they wanna live their lives.
